It might be nothing...

Postby Leah » Mon Feb 21, 2011 9:38 am

Something showed up on a routine mammogram. I have been asked to come in for an ultrasound tomorrow. I will know whether it really is *something* or *nothing.*

At the moment I'm having trouble staying in the moment and not running ahead to a worst-case scenario.

I have not been on here a while, but I am a 43 yo breast cancer patient. The waiting is the worst part. 80% of all lumps are nothing to worry about. I will be checking back here to check on you.

Leah, I just saw this thread, and I'm glad that it turned out to be nothing. Its hard not to let your imagination get the best of you with these types of things.

Then again, maybe not.

Today I received a letter saying something "requires further evaluation," and please come back in 6 months. I'm not sure I want to wait that long.

That letter might be from your first mammo. Many times there is a few week delay in the reading and the letters. i would call and ask what the letter refers too. Prayers for you.

I got a letter and a call about the first one. This letter clearly stated it was about the second one. I live in a medical Mecca. Procedures, tests, and interpretations are generally pretty quick to happen.

I asked the doctor about it. She did a brief examination and was unable to find anything specific today. She is going to go back and look at the films to see if I need a referral to a specialist.

That is odd that they would think something needs checked and ask you to come back in 6 months....Praying for you. I agree that it is best to find out what is going on now, and not wait for 6 months. If something is wrong, 6 months is a long time to wait to take care of it.

I asked my doctor about it. She didn't feel anything. She will have her office refer me to a specialist.
