Paxil Causing No O's

Postby ravinghusker » Tue Nov 18, 2014 3:26 pm

I have been on 25mg Paxil for a little over a month. It has done amazing things to treat my depression and anxiety. However, the one side effect that is bothering me is that it is almost impossible to Orgasm. I can get myself there but it takes a long time and the intensity is pretty low. I still have a drive, but don't get that release. Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this?

Paxil is an SSRI, and SSRI's are known for having that affect on orgasm. I went through the same thing when I was on Zoloft. I did find that a switch to Wellbutrin (not an SSRI) worked quite well for me. Ask your doctor if there are alternatives that won't affect your sexual function.

Do you know if Wellbutrin treats anxiety as well?

According to my Google medical degree, yes. But check with your real doctor to be sure. :)

I have a similar problem with Lexapro. I can O during ML, but since that never happens I'm left with MB, which is all but impossible. Like you all the desires are still there but the ability to release then is gone. It's like a sick joke.

I also made the switch from Zoloft to Wellbutrin and my libido and sexual function came back (and I also lost some excess weight, which was a bonus). With me though, the Wellbutrin tends to exacerbate my anxiety a bit. The other positive benefits of it outweigh that one particular side effect so I am staying on the Wellbutrin anyway.

The concensus on the internet about Wellbutrin and anxiety seems to be split 50/50 - some reporting decreased anxiety and some reporting increased.

My wife had the same issue on Zoloft. Her libido was better, but Os were very elusive. I was up for the challenge though. She eventually changed to Wellbutrin and things greatly improved. She hasn't been on antidepressants for a few years now.
