Spotting with the Sponge?

Postby beautyfromashes » Sat Mar 09, 2013 9:03 am

We're currently using FAM/barrier methods for birth control, usually condoms or spermicide. I decided to try out the Today Sponges again. I used them a few times back in our newlywed days, so this wasn't the first time.

This time when I removed the sponge in the morning, there was a little blood in the "dimple" that fits against the cervix. I'm on day 20 of my cycle, so I shouldn't be spotting yet. My cycles are still pretty irregular, but they run long, like around 50 days, not short.

Has anyone else had this happen? Is it just irritation from the spermicide?

Spotting with the Sponge?

Never used a sponge, so I could be way off. Is there any chance that you're ovulating currently? I have had ovulation bleeding twice since I've been married, though I can't recall an instance before marriage. It has been just a small spot or smear of blood, so it could very well be what you describe.
