Post baby birthcontrol

Postby Mrs Weller » Tue Oct 21, 2014 6:24 am

Just about to have third baby and given the problems using the pill caused after my last two children I am interested in people's opinions on effective non hormonal methods.

Temporary or permanent? Essure is like tubal ligation, but no incisions are involved.

I use something called the ladycomp, its a little computer that helps me chart my fertile times via basal body temperature. Dh pulls out during my fertile times and we do nothing during non fertile times, but you could use condoms or a diaphragm during those times too.

There is talk of possibility having a fourth in a few years so DH and I don't want to do anything permanent yet.

We used a diaphragm and a milder spermicide you can get from Canada or Europe, and loved the combo. No side effects, no pregnancy.

Condoms are pretty effective if you use them every time from the start of ICE and have the right size. After DS was born I swore I'd never go on the pill again. Condoms were effective, but not as good as going without.

DW had a hormonal IUD (Mirena) inserted 5 years ago. The best that have happened to our MB. Pills killed her desire. Condoms killed our sensations and pleasure and charting her bodybtemp to figure out her fertile periods was a big hassle.

We have also used the LadyComp to practice the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM). I highly recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler, which teaches FAM. We've been using condoms as our main form of birth control for the past two years (with FAM being the primary method before that). I've never gotten pregnant in the almost 4 years we've been married, so I can say with confidence that both methods work. I've never used a diaphragm or cervical cap, but I know people who have gotten pregnant while using those, so I'm personally wary.

we used a combo of FAM (TCOYF's computer program is very good) and condoms and that worked very well for years. However, I second the recommendation of making sure that you have the right size condoms...
