Did you guys get two holes?

I'm 16 years back. I had read about that at the time, but it was new and pricey and I was self-pay. Two holes.

Strange. I was self-pay too, and shopped around. As I recall, everyone wanted around $500. The guy I chose wasn't the only one doing the
"no scalpel" method. You'd think it would be cheaper seeing it takes all of 10 minutes.

I wonder if it was new and risky as far as malpractice was concerned?

Could be. It became available in the USA in 1999, so it was new when we got ours.

Interesting that the above link mentions vasectomy significantly lowers the incidence of BPH, in Chinese at least . Need to check that out.

Apparently no-scalpel is still not universal.

I guess my concern isn't the surgery but the after affect.
Those of you who had it done - you noticed no change in your sex drive, fluid consistency, etc?

None at all. But we did have more sex, and we had more spontaneous sex. We also had more intercourse whereas before we did a bit more "other".

For me, the only complication was an occasional short-lived minor ache in one testicle the first few winters. Only during the winters - I was working outside back then. It got less frequent and then stopped.

Had one done a year ago, old school scalpel method.

I was sore maybe the first few times afterward, but no noticeable effects today.

definitely recommend it.

I had an appointment for a vasectomy referral a year and a half ago (our insurance is an HMO that due to their Catholic affiliation doesn't do sterilization procedures, so a referral to a outside provider is required), and it never went through. I haven't followed up since, because due to family and work issues I don't think I could devote the proper time to recover from a vasectomy right now.

We've just been tracking the wife's cycle and using condoms during the fertile times for the last two and a half years since our daughter was born. The first part of our marriage my wife was on the pill up until she got pregnant with our son while on the pill six years in. After that we stopped the pill and went to our current tracking her cycle and condom method, which has worked well except for when we got a little carried away once, and our daughter came along 9 months later! My only regret there is that she wasn't twins, because she's an absolute hoot, the most loveable goofball kid ever. Two of her would be epic!

I'll probably end up scheduling another referral appointment soon though, hopefully it will actually happen this time.
