Board Down Time - Report Issues Here

Postby Paul B » Sun Mar 27, 2016 5:52 pm

We will be getting the board software updated on April 3rd. Hopefully downtime will be less than a day.

As we know more on when this will happen we will let everyone know.

And yes, this will include an update of Tap-a-talk.

The plan is for the update to start about noon EDT (GMT -4) on Sunday the 3rd.

In theory it will be down a couple of hours.

In theory.....

I had no issues with down time.

But I got a new format/look when it opened each time.

I sure hope the old format comes back! I REALLY, REALLY dislike the "new" format not showing the dates of the last post on the topic. Can't find the new posts without opening each topic area. Pain in the rear.

Use the Active Topics link under the Quick Links pulldown menu, on the left. That way, you don't have to go thru each topic.

What I do, after I've read all the threads that I can, or want, or need to, I go back to the Board Index page and click Mark All Forums Read. That way, when I come back and go to the Active Topics page, I can tell which threads have been updated by new posts.

Sorry, that was done by the folks who put out the software, and it's not configurable. I think everything is still here, just hidden.

And yes, it's always a pain.

On iPad, the TMB header takes up half the screen. That doesn't seem right?

I always like to use the Unread Posts view. I found out to still do that, so that's good.

Then I noticed that I could Mark All Read from that screen, which is nice--except that instead of returning me to the URL that lists unread posts (which would currently be empty, which hasn't been a problem in the past), it takes me to the Board Index. Is there a way of returning me to my previous page after marking everything read?

The links are in a box and are not flowing right. I'll see what I can do on that.

Same on my Ipad. Everything used to "fit" without having to scroll left or right, but that changed with the upgrade.

They made a big mess of it, and they took away the built-in editor. Given my limited connection at the moment, it's beyond me.

Is it annoying, or does it make the site unusable?

Doesn't make it unusable, but definitely harder than before! Everything became much bigger and so you get much less info on the screen than previously. It's kind of like moving from 1024x78 resolution to 600x400 all of a sudden. Nothing fits like it once did anymore.

I'm on an iPad and have no issues with the header. Now mine is a 3rd generation too. And I'm not on taptalk either.

Murphy's Law, #5 if I remember correctly, applies:

"If you work on something long enough to improve it, it will break"

(like XP to Vista)

I will avoid the iPad until the tweaking takes place.

I'm sure glad Android handles it better.

Using my iPad Air 2, the website appears properly in Safari, though in vertical orientation the search bar extends into the masthead. I have also checked on an iPad 2 with the same results.

Not sure what the issue could be,...

On the iphone screen, I no longer see the marriage dates of the posters when they post- I miss that feature. Do I need to change settings or is that a permanent change?

 Oh man, that should really come with a trigger warning. My husband's experience with Vista (and therefore mine as I had to listen to his frequent rants about it) was so bad that our entire family switched to Macs.

Apple has a long history of deciding how code should render as opposed to how it was designed to render.

A screen shot would help me. Post it somewhere and put a link here.

I just now saw that you were doing an upgrade, which is why the site has been virtually unusable all week. For me, when I click on site index, it shows the various forums, but there's no longer "see your posts," "see new posts," or anything clickable up top. Is there a way to get those back? I don't see any more comments mentioning that. I don't post from my phone, from tapatalk, or anything else, just from a laptop or desktop computer.
Marriage--what a wonderful image of Christ's love for His bride!
