Nail it to the Cross (a gospel song, was listening to it lately and the lyrics brought me to tears)

Is there something in your heart?
Between you and the Lord
Are you drifting apart?
Not as close anymore
There's nothing you can do
That He will not forgive
Bring it to the cross
Let it die so you can live.

Nail it to the cross
Get it under the blood
Drown your pain
And every stain
In the mercy flood
Nail it to the cross
Find hope and forgiveness
Kneel at the tree
And walk away free
Nail it to the cross.

Is there a burden you bear
That's got you battered and bound?
Struggling for strength
Do you long to lay it down?
Don't take another step
Just kneel where you stand
Lay it at the cross
And take the hammer in your hand.

Nail it to the cross
Get it under the blood
Drown your pain
And every stain
In the mercy flood
Nail it to the cross
Find hope and forgiveness
Kneel at the tree
And walk away free
Nail it to the cross.

This song always speaks to me when I hear it on the radio. I've heard it a couple of times recently, when I was traveling alone.

For whatever reason, the opening verse just hits me. I guess I really have a hard time with surrender. 54 years trying to do things on your own is a very difficult habit to break.

Casting Crowns

"Just Be Held"

Hold it all together
Everybody needs you strong
But life hits you out of nowhere
And barely leaves you holding on

And when you're tired of fighting
Chained by your control
There's freedom in surrender
Lay it down and let it go

So when you're on your knees and answers seem so far away
You're not alone, stop holding on and just be held
Your world's not falling apart, it's falling into place
I'm on the throne, stop holding on and just be held
Just be held, just be held

If your eyes are on the storm
You'll wonder if I love you still
But if your eyes are on the cross
You'll know I always have and I always will

And not a tear is wasted
In time, you'll understand
I'm painting beauty with the ashes
Your life is in My hands

So when you're on your knees and answers seem so far away
You're not alone, stop holding on and just be held
Your worlds not falling apart, its falling into place
I'm on the throne, stop holding on and just be held
Just be held, just be held

Lift your hands, lift your eyes
In the storm is where you'll find Me
And where you are, I'll hold your heart
I'll hold your heart
Come to Me, find your rest
In the arms of the God who won't let go

So when you're on your knees and answers seem so far away
You're not alone, stop holding on and just be held
Your worlds not falling apart, its falling into place
I'm on the throne, stop holding on and just be held (stop holding on and just be held)
Just be held, just be held, just be held, just be held

Shattered, like you've never been before
The life you knew
In a thousand pieces on the floor
Words fall short in times like these
When this world drives you to your knees
You think you're never gonna get back
To the you that used to be

(Chorus)
Tell your heart to beat again
Close your eyes and breathe it in
Let the shadows fall away
Step into the light of Grace
Yesterday's a closing door
You don't live there anymore
Say goodbye to where you've been
And tell your heart to beat again

Beginning, just let that word wash over you
It's alright now
Love's healing hands have pulled you through
So get back up and take step one
Leave the darkness feel the sun
Cause your story's far from over
And your journey's just begun

(Chorus)
Tell your heart to beat again
Close your eyes and breathe it in
Let the shadows fall away
Step into the light of Grace
Yesterday's a closing door
You don t live there anymore
Say goodbye to where you've been
And tell your heart to beat again

Let every heartbreak and every scar
Be a picture that reminds you Who has carried you this far
‘Cause love sees farther than you ever could
In this moment Heaven's working everything for your good

(Chorus)
Tell your heart to beat again
Close your eyes and breathe it in
Let the shadows fall away
Step into the light of Grace
Yesterday's a closing door
You don't live there anymore
Say goodbye to where you've been
And tell your heart to beat again
Your heart to beat again, beat again

Oh, so tell your heart to beat again

This song has gotten me though a bit of a difficult day today:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6-KdV3PXus

"Good Good Father"

Oh, I've heard a thousand stories of what they think you're like
But I've heard the tender whisper of love in the dead of night
And you tell me that you're pleased
And that I'm never alone

You're a Good, Good Father
It's who you are, it's who you are, it's who you are
And I'm loved by you
It's who I am, it's who I am, it's who I am

Oh, and I've seen many searching for answers far and wide
But I know we're all searching
For answers only you provide
Cause you know just what we need
Before we say a word

You're a Good, Good Father
It's who you are, it's who you are, it's who you are
And I'm loved by you
It's who I am, it's who I am, it's who I am

Cause you are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways to us

You are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways to us

Oh, it's love so undeniable
I, I can hardly speak
Peace so unexplainable
I, I can hardly think

As you call me deeper still
Into love, love, love

Like Job, I also had a secular song that was instrumental in my young adult life. I grew up a Christian and was pretty much the "good boy" until I went to college. By the time I graduated, I was only "Christian" in name, but not actions. The worst part was my attitude towards sexual relations which went from stanch "no premarital sex" to "OK, if you want..." and as a result I had multiple casual encounters.

After I graduated, I went camping one weekend (alone). While I sat by the campfire, I was listening to the radio on my headphones and the song "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins came on and these words hit me like a ton of bricks:

"I've seen your face before my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am
Well I was there and I saw what you did, I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you've been
It's all been a pack of lies"

At that moment, I realized what my life had become and I immediately confessed and asked for God's forgiveness. I can't say I immediately became a saint, but it was the pivotal moment that drew me back to a true relationship with Jesus.

My wife and I were inspired by several songs as we followed the Lord's calling into full-time missions. My signature line is from one:

"Great Adventure" by Steven Curtis Chapman
Saddle up your horses

Started out this morning
In the usual way
Chasing thoughts inside my head
Of all I had to do today
Another time around the circle
Try to make it better than the last

I opened up the Bible
And I read about me
Said I'd been a prisoner
And God's grace had set me free

And somewhere between the pages
It hit me like a lightning bolt
I saw a big frontier in front of me
And I heard somebody say, "Let's go"

Saddle up your horses
We've got a trail to blaze
Through the wild blue yonder
Of God's amazing grace

Let's follow our Leader
Into the glorious unknown
This is a life like no other
This is the great adventure, yeah

Come on get ready
For the ride of your life
Gonna leave long faced religion
In a cloud of dust behind
And discover all the new horizons
Just waiting to be explored
This is what we were created for, yeah

Saddle up your horses
We've got a trail to blaze
Through the wild blue yonder
Of God's amazing grace

Let's follow our Leader
Into the glorious unknown
This is a life like no other
This is the great adventure

We'll travel over, over mountains so high
We'll go through valleys below
Still through it all, we'll find that
This is the greatest journey
That the human heart will ever see

The love of God will take us far
Beyond my wildest dreams, yeah
Oh, saddle up your horses
Come on, get ready to ride

Saddle up your horses
We've got a trail to blaze
Through the wild blue yonder
Of God's amazing grace

Let's follow our Leader
Into the glorious unknown
This is a life like no other
This is the great adventure

Come on, this is the great adventure
Saddle up, saddle up your horses
We've got a trail to blaze
Through God's amazing grace

Another great song that reminds me to live in faith is Dive by Stephen Curtis Chapman

Dive

(V1)
The long awaited rains
Have fallen hard upon the thirsty ground
And carved their way to where
The wild and rushing river can be found

And like the rains
I have been carried here to where the river flows, yeah
My heart is racing and my knees are weak as I walk to the edge
I know there is no turning back once my feet have left the ledge

And in the rush I hear a voice
That's telling me it's time to take the leap of faith
So here I go

(Chorus)
I'm diving in, I'm going deep, in over my head I want to be
Caught in the rush, lost in the flow, in over my head I want to go
The rivers deep, the rivers wide, the rivers water is alive
So sink or swim I'm diving in

(V2)
There is a supernatural power
In this mighty rivers flow
It can bring the dead to life
And it can fill an empty soul

And give a heart the only thing
Worth living and worth dying for, yeah
But we will never know the awesome power of the grace of God
Until we let ourselves get swept away into this holy flood

So if you'll take my hand
We'll close our eyes and count to three
And take the leap of faith, come on let's go (Chorus)

It is interesting when older threads pop back up and make you pause and think ............

My belief is - and what Job and God's Geek allude to - is that many secular artists have a 'brush' with God and write a song about it. Bob Dylan, of course, is an obvious one and his journey is ongoing, but I think many of the 'long stayers' or truly gifted in the secular music industry have at least one song where a Christian will listen to their music and go

Ahhhh, He has spoken to you and you did hear.

So for me - amongst a whole long list - supertramps 'Lord is it mine' has always had meaning

"Lord Is It Mine"

I know that there's a reason why I need to be alone
I need to find a silent place that I can call my own
Is it mine, Lord is it mine?

When everything's dark and nothing seems right,
there's nothing to win and there's no need to fight

I never cease to wonder at the cruelty of this land
but it seems a time of sadness is a time to understand
Is it mine, Lord is it mine?

When everything's dark and nothing seems right,
You don't have to win and there's no need to fight

If only I could find a way
to feel your sweetness through the day
The love that shines around me could be mine.
So give us an answer, won't you,
We know what we have to do,
There must be a thousand voices trying to get through.

ETA ....... didn't mean to press that button ............ now when I just read the lyrics the song is a bit ordinary but if you youtube and watch it the whole build up is just beautiful. Which then makes me think of the effect of the whole package and leads me to Leonard Cohens beautiful ' Hallelujah' and the obvious reason I wanted to call one of my kids Shrek.

"Hallelujah"
("Various Positions" Version)

Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah

And that music selection may well tell me why I have far more non-christian friends than Christian

I believe this as well. I believe the gifts God gives us are meant to edify the "body" AND to be a light to the world. (Matthew 5:13-16) I try to support artists who may normally perform to the secular world, but are not ashamed to speak truth. Some groups I know are Sawyer Brown, the Outlaws, and Kansas (music written by former member Kerry Livgren).

This song spoke to me as well in my young teen years. I wanted to sing it in church, but our choir/music director would not allow it since it was from a secular group.

I've been kinda scared to post lyrics that meant a lot to me for fear that it is too secular. There are 4 songs that really stand out to me:

1.Let it be (The Beatles)
"Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Yeah, let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah, let it be
There will be an answer, let it be" To me the song has always been a prayer of acceptance, to be filled with a sense of peace despite whatever your circumstance.

2. And here it is: One Love (Bob Marley)
"Is there a place for the hopeless sinner,
Who has hurt all mankind just
To save his own beliefs?"

"There ain't no hiding place
From the Father of Creation."

"Saying, One Love!
What about the One Heart?
What about the?
Let's get together and feel all right.
I'm pleading to mankind!
Oh, Lord!

Give thanks and praise to the Lord
And I will feel all right;

Let's get together and feel all right.
Give thanks and praise to the Lord
And I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right."

To, me this song gets to the crux of worship is giving thanks and praise to the Lord, our One Heart, our One Love.

3) And yet another Bob Marley. This song is kind of a personal anthem and I have been known to just play it over and over again. It speaks to me and just moves me every time, that I have been redeemed. "Redemption Song"

“But my hand was made strong
By the hand of the almighty
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly
Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
‘Cause all I ever have
Redemption songs
Redemption songs”

(Just for the record, Bob Marley did accept Jesus before his death. It is said that he wept with his family for over half an hour at that time. You see whispers of his beliefs in his later songs when his manager and all those around him were trying to prevent him from going public about it, because he had become the face of Rastafari)
"I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy ...And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight" Phil 1:3,4,9

More modern version of "His Eye is On the Sparrow" hymn... it touched my heart today! If you look through the singer "Chelsey Moon"'s other stuff she tends to redo many hymns so so beautifully. Be blessed! :D

The song is called My lighthouse

I can only remember this part of it

"You are my peace in a troubled sea whoa
You are my peace in a troubled sea. "

How awesome to know that the GOd we serve will give us peace when life will toss us about.

This song has inspired me today... found it on a playlist on the way to work. It's pretty much everything my <3 needed to hear.

Sovereign in the mountain air
Sovereign on the ocean floor
With me in the calm
With me in the storm

Sovereign in my greatest joy
Soverign in my deepest cry
With me in the dark
With me at the dawn

In your everlasting arms
All the pieces of my life
From beginning to the end
I can trust you

In your never failing love
You work everything for good
God whatever comes my way
I will trust you

Sovereign in the mountain air
Sovereign on the ocean floor
With me in the calm
With me in the storm

Sovereign in my greatest joy
Sovereign in my deepest cry
With me in the dark
With me at the dawn

In your everlasting arms
All the pieces of my life
From beginning to the end
I can trust you

In your never failing love
You work everything for good
God whatever comes my way
I will trust you

God whatever comes my way
I will trust you

All my hopes
All I need
Held in your hands

All my life
All of me
Held in your hands

All my fears
All my dreams
Held in your hands

All my hopes
All I need
Held in your hands

All my life
All of me
Held in your hands

All my fears
All my dreams
Held in your hands

In your everlasting arms
All the pieces of my life
From beginning to the end
I can trust you

In your never failing love
You work everything for good

Foxluvsbunny, we sang that song in church over the weekend!

God's creation inspires me every day. This song brings me to tears every time we sing it. The words touch me like no other worship song. I believe Phil Wickam is the original composer.

"You're Beautiful"

I see Your face in every sunrise
The colors of the morning are inside Your eyes
The world awakens in the light of the day
I look up to the sky and say
You're beautiful

I see Your power in the moonlit night
Where planets are in motion and galaxies are bright
We are amazed in the light of the stars
It's all proclaiming who You are
You're beautiful

I see You there hanging on a tree
You bled and then you died and then you rose again for me
Now You are sitting on Your heavenly throne
Soon we will be coming home
You're beautiful

When we arrive at eternity's shore
Where death is just a memory and tears are no more
We'll enter in as the wedding bells ring
Your bride will come together and we'll sing
You're beautiful

I see Your face, I see Your face
I see Your face, You're beautiful
You're beautiful
You're beautiful

Worshipping (belting it out with hubby, no holding back) to Trust In You. Definitely, lyrics are most encouraging. In order to save space, minimalist here, I will include the most powerful line to me:

Mighty Warrior, King of the fight,

no matter what I face, You're by my side

Taking a momentary break from my hiatus to share a song that I have heard many times, but when I heard it this morning, it was different. The lyrics spoke to me in a very different way than they have in the past, and spoke to my current struggles.

I miss my friends here, but I'm not alone. I didn't know it before, but I never was.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dgeMHHbFslk

"Mountain Of God" by Third Day

Thought that I was all alone
Broken and afraid
But You were there with me
Yes, You were there with me

And I didn't even know
That I had lost my way
But You were there with me
Yes, You were there with me

'Til You opened up my eyes
I never knew
That I couldn't ever make it
Without You

Even though the journey's long
And I know the road is hard
Well, the One who's gone before me
He will help me carry on
After all that I've been through
Now I realize the truth
That I must go through the valley
To stand upon the mountain of God

As I travel on the road
That You have lead me down
You are here with me
Yes, You are here with me
I have need for nothing more
Oh, now that I have found
That You are here with me
Yes, You are here with me

I confess from time to time
I lose my way
But You are always there
To bring me back again

Sometimes I think of where it is I've come from
And the things I've left behind
But of all I've had, what I possessed
Nothing can quite compare
With what's in front of me
With what's in front of me

I would not be here tonight
If I had to choose
It's always the bigger things in life
That seem to choose you

You can say what you want
Believe what you will believe, yeah
But I’ll take what I want
And see what I need to see

When I’m buried in the questions
I can’t find the answers
I close my eyes and listen
Till I remember
Everything was beautiful,
Nothing seem to matter
Every day was just another day to dream

You can say what you want
And be who you want to be, yeah
And you never looked back
To the things that you had
Or the ones that you never need

Buried in the questions
I can’t find the answers
I close my eyes and listen
Till I remember
Everything is beautiful, beautiful

If this is all there is
You can’t wrap your head around it
If somewhere love exists
You can wrap your arms around it

Can you hear me now?
Can you hear me now?
Can you hear me now?
Can you hear me now?

Buried in the questions
You can’t find the answers
Close your eyes and listen
Until you remember, oh oh
You don’t need the answers
Just close your eyes and remember

Everything was beautiful
Everything is beautiful…... here

Oh ...... alright. I'll stick my nose back in.

I could list my favorite sex songs but they normally deal with illicit topics so I won't go there.

If you love pure musical talent go on youTube and type in Petteri Sarioli and select the U2 song and watch in awe.

He falls into the percussive guitar category and is just amazing.

Lots of repetition in the song itself, but the lyrics and music are so strong and the message so powerful that the repetition is not a bad thing!

"The Anthem"

By his stripes we are healed
By his nail-pierced hands we’re free
By his blood, we’re washed clean
Now we have the victory.

The power of sin is broken,
Jesus overcame it all,
He has won our freedom,
Jesus has won it all,

Hallelujah!
You have won the victory.
Hallelujah!
You have won it all for me.

Death could not hold you down
You are the risen king
Seated in Majesty
You are the risen king

Our god is risen, he is alive
He won the victory, he reigns on high
