How to make a link

Postby Paul B » Sun Mar 27, 2005 10:06 pm

I have turned off BBCode here so you will see what you would see when you are composing a post.

First copy the link. For this demo, the link is http://www.howto.com.

Second type what you want, like:

Third, highlight the "click here" and then click on the URL button - far right of the buttons. Now you have this:

[url]click here[/url]

Forth, you add an "=" and paste the link - so you have this:

[url=http://www.howto.com]click here[/url]

In the post you are doing it will look like the line above, but when you preview or submit you will have what you want.

Paul,
I think the last line of the example didn't come out like you wanted. All I can see is a blue 'click here' the parens, url's and equal sign are not visible.

To do the final part of the link, place the "=" sign after the first "url" before the brackets. So it would look like this (without the spaces).

[ url = http://www.howto.com ]Link here[ /url ]

And if all that is still too much, just go to tinyurl.com. I love that place!

After the "url" you put an equals sign "=" followed by the url you want to connect to (and remember the "http" and ":" before the url itself.

Hi there,

Does this procedure work when trying to quote a thread or topic from this board?
Always grateful for the opportunity...

Yes, sure will! It's a little longer than just using the quote button on the post you're quoting from, but it is useful for multiple quotations in a post.
