Re: Sons and Masturbating
@Beccaloo, to add to your thoughts, you missed the one thing my mind thought could be an issue..... what if it's an issue of disagreement on their stance of MB? Whether this represents what she really believes or not, @Krista gives off the vibe MB is wrong, if it's wrong, then it's sinful. If that's the message she gives, and husband does it...well, that's awkward. And then she may want the message given that it is wrong and he shouldn't do it, and rather than cause an issue with DW, the husband avoids the topic all around.
God can change what people do, behavioral patterns that have been in play for decades. He can change what we do to cope, to find comfort, to survive conflict, to count. Rahab had done a same old thing for years... and then she did something new.

I agree. Interestingly, I had added that point, but must have removed it while editing.SeekingChange wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 8:23 am @Beccaloo, to add to your thoughts, you missed the one thing my mind thought could be an issue..... what if it's an issue of disagreement on their stance of MB?
That would totally stand with not showing weakness/flaws. Why enter a fight he knows he can't win.SeekingChange wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 8:23 am Whether this represents what she really believes or not, @Krista gives off the vibe MB is wrong, if it's wrong, then it's sinful. Exactly! Yep.SeekingChange wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 8:23 am And then she may want the message given that it is wrong and he shouldn't do it, and rather than cause an issue with DW, the husband avoids the topic all around.
Thanks for filling in the holes.

Re: Sons and Masturbating
Heard a quote today on a podcast today from a well known Christian author who attributed it to James Dobson who was asked what he would say to someone about masturbation, “I hope you don’t have the need to ...but if you do, I hope you won’t feel guilty.” I found that to be very freeing. I don’t see Scripture saying no to it, only what typically surrounds the act: lust & fantasy outside of a married spouse, porn, unbridled sexual pursuit (even in a idol-type manner), etc., all clearly sinful things.

Dobson was/is far more positive than that about it. He may have said that, but don't think it reflects his thinking well.

Thank you both for you excellent thoughts. Yes - the degree to which we are comfortable talking about sex with our kids is mirrored in large measure by how well we can handle that discussion between ourselves.Beccaloo wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 8:40 amI agree.
