The magic inch

Post by PaulB »

We read all the time how most women can't orgasm from intercourse alone. There is some debate about the percentage who can, and that number tends to increase as women get older, but there is a real issue here.

And it comes down to the woman's intimate biology.

If a woman's clitoris is no more than an inch from her vagina, intercourse alone will result in orgasm. If it’s just over an inch her chances of orgasm without additional stimulation of the clitoris are iffy. And over 1 and an eighth of an inch means she can't orgasm from intercourse alone.

There is speculation that environmental factors (including environmental toxins) have recently increased the average distance between the vagina and the clitoris. This would mean more women were able to climax from intercourse alone in the past. While that's interesting, it doesn't help anyone.

If you're not built for orgasm from intercourse alone (get out those tape measures - see the second link) don't beat yourself up for not being able to do it. Find other ways to make sex great for both of you. Have your orgasm before or after intercourse (or both!) or add some manual or vibrator stimulation to the clit during lovemaking.

Let me see if I understand this in layman's terms.... they/we are measuring from the uretha opening (urinary meatus) to just under the clitoral glans (head)?

Can we say ... it's so nice  to see others using appropriate terms for the anatomy involved

@SC:

As I understood it, the measurement was from the clitoral glans to the "top" of the vaginal opening, but I haven't read the links that Paul posted today (remember from an older blog post I read).

Scratch that, actually reading stuff, at least at a glance, says you're correct.

I've seen both used. The urethra is an easy point to find. Of course, it's not in the exact same place for each woman.

@S+Z, that's what I thought but in the second link, with the description under the chart, it sounds to me like it's saying something different, that's why I am trying to verify.

The first figure in the full paper has to do with occurrence of orgasm for both men and women as a function of age. It's pretty cool and very much in line with the results in TMB's survey!

https://site.themarriagebed.com/surveys/recent-surveys/orgasmic-experience-before-and-after-marriage/

The second plot in the survey is essentially the first derivative of the first plot in the full paper.
